“God took our sins, and instead of imputing them to us and to our account, He put them to His Son’s account.  He put them on Him and He punished them in Him.  Christ came into the world to bear that.  He volunteered to do it.  He came into the world deliberately in order to do it.  This is how we are saved and reconciled to God—instead of reckoning my sins to me God reckoned them to Christ, and punished them in Him.  As Peter puts it, ‘Who his own self bore our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead unto sins, should live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed.”  (1 Peter 2:24)  (D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones; 1899-1981)
