“There is no man but doth propound and incline more to one sin than another; as in the body, there is one humor predominant, or as in the hive there is one master bee; so in the heart, there is one master sin; there is one sin which is not only near to a man as the garment, but dear to him as the right eye. This is Satan’s fort-royal, all his strength lies here.” (Thomas Watson 1620-1686)

Asking for latitude in my response to this quote, I find that all of man’s sins are summed up to one explanation, and to some degree in this quote without looking at Thomas Watson’s context of thought, it is the ongoing unbelief in Christ that is the primary sin that Satan seeks after.

For here, Satan may rest that he has the ongoing power to deceive many due to the rejection of God’s truth, that the sin of unbelief rejecting the Gospel, puts sinners into hell.

May God, from His Word by the Spirit, illuminate all, awakening the hearts to His truth.
